Have we really become so polarized by brand loyalty, so utterly saturated by the marketing guru's meta-sperm, that we really can't have a simple, logical and polite discourse about the upcoming games without resorting to bitching about which is better, which is more arcade, which is more sim, which is better because of Sony or Microsoft or Turn 10 or Polyphony Digital...
Seriously, and I realize this was posted on Kotaku, home of the mega-nerd wars which put our own disputes over manual vs automatic, old vs new pissing matches to shame, but what the fuck people?
I like both franchises, and I appreciate both, and their respective platforms/developers and while I only presently own 360 and play Forza, I can actually appreciate both. This seems pretty rare these days if only because the fans have become so polarized.
But what I don't get, what I don't understand, is why? Neither platform or program is really that much better then the other and to wage war over which is the best is to become a tool of the corporate marketing monster; guru sperm.

Know what pisses me off, now that I can read the article (kotaku is blocked at work, but not jaloppynikoppoy)?
Its a MAD CATZ. They have made absolute SHIT in the past. And while this LOOKS nice, it's no Fanatec. Which I had thru FM4, and it was awesome. Sold it just in time, too. Guess it will not be XB1 compatible. Like, at all. Maybe.
PLUS, there's no clutch pedal. WTF. Even the cheapest set of Fanatec pedals come with a clutch. So much for realism.

That about summarizes why I moved from Kotaku to Jalopnik a few years ago.

Thisthisthisthis! How goddamn hard can it be for someone other than Fanatec to release a steering wheel with three pedals for Forza?!

That's funny. I was so outraged at the bile being spat back and forth between PS/GT loyalists and XB/FM fans that I hardly even took the time to process the content of the article, and the item itself.
I assume it will be a piece of shit, because it's Mad Catz. I assume it will be pretty cheap and still over priced, because it's Mad Catz. I generally expect it will be worse then the discontinued MS Wireless Wheel for Xbox 360 because it's Mad Catz.
There is nothing about this product that says to me, "Buy it man, it's worth it." Because I have too many alarm bells ringing, shouting, "It's Mad Catz, man. RUN!"

At least we argue about practical things like cars and not impractical things like video games and technology, huh? :)

Yeah, the thumbnail got me all excited, then I clicked on the article and was like........ um....... NO.
I could care less too about the FM/GT fights. I played GT through GT4, and when it came time to choose PS3 or 360, I got a 360 because I got a good deal on it, and I couldn't pass it up. PS3's were still fairly new and outrageously priced back then. I bought Forza2 (again, cause it was cheap), then FM3 when it came out, then FM4 and my Fanatec because I loved FM3 so much.
Now if I had gotten a PS3 and GT5, plus a G27, I'd be just as happy.... and at this damn crossroads again.
I preordered GTA V so I;m stuck with that on the 360 for awhile, but once that is done and the new consoles and games are out after the holidays..... I don't know if I'll buy either one. But if I do, I'm gonna have a hard time deciding.
I wish I could afford/justify both.

I remember looking into getting a nice set of pedals and a wheel to play, but then it occurred to me: for the cost of the game, and the nice wheel/pedal set, I could probably by a $500 clunker, hoon it to death, and have more fun and learn to really drive for the same price.
(In the end, I didn't buy either, and I don't really regret that decision).

Yeah, and the funny thing is that I'm still about the same age as most of the flame warriors of Kotaku... I guess age isn't always a clear indicator of maturity.
I do visit Kotaku every now and then, but the comment sections are still the big moshpits of sheer stupidity and pointless raging that I remember so I try to keep my reading to the articles themselves (which aren't always all that good, but that's another discussion).

I sometimes play GT5 at a friend's place, and I long to own it myself some day. Right now I just can't afford it though, due to having tons of other things tearing on my dwindling supply of sweet, sweet cash (the biggest of which of course is my car).

The problem is that kotaku is inhabited by 14 year old socially awkward shut in's. I honestly just play PC games now with my Logitech, and I don't play nearly as much as I used to. I'd rather work on my cars.

I've had a couple of decent conversations over there. The key is finding people who like gt/forza because they're into cars, rather than people who like cars because they're into gt/forza.
I own both ps3 and 360. Basically so I can play those franchises. They're both wonderful and both have their strengths and weaknesses. I marginally prefer forza, but anything that does a decent job of simulating driving a great road in a great car is ok in my book.

Yeah, when it came time to sell the Fanatec, my 3rd biggest reason was that I'd rather use the money for driving a real car.

Forza is awesome.
But I'm not looking to convert people, you like what you like.

I think it's part of the evolutionary , tribal , social pattern we display.
Us vs. Them
Chevy vs. Ford
Mercedes vs. BMW
Yamaha vs. Suzuki
doesn't seem to matter if they are remarkably similar . everybody want's to join a team , pick a side.

You'd think that after 300,000 years of social evolution we'd eventually get passed that and move on. Mind you, it is a very human tendancy to believe we are above our evolutionary instincts. So there's that.

I have no preference, a racing game is a racing game. I only "chose" Forza over Gran Turismo because I already had an Xbox and never planned on getting a PS3. (too much drain on the wallet to have multiple consoles)
